About
Since 2014, one thimble at a time
Thimbles of Plenty began in December 2014 as a book club run by a group of friends who were business people and keen readers, and who had more books than time. Each of us took a book and summarised it for the others. More than 1,000 readers in 13 countries bought those first summaries.
How we write a summary
Every summary is written fresh in our own words, never copied or closely paraphrased from the book. Each follows the same shape: the book in one sentence, who it's for, a 3-minute read with the five ideas worth keeping and three things to try this week, then a 5-minute deep dive for the books that earn it. Our editors write with the help of AI tools, and every summary is fact-checked before it goes out.
In your language
Ireland and the UK are home to people from all over the world, and the best business books shouldn't depend on your first language. Every summary in the library is available in English, Polish, Romanian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, German and Thai.
The Thimbles Rating
Every book gets a rating out of five thimbles. It is our editorial opinion of the original book, not of our summary, and it is never an average of customer reviews. We score four things from 1 to 5:
Usefulness
How much you can act on. A 5 hands you several tools you could use this week.
Big idea
How original and powerful the core idea is. A 5 changed how its field thinks.
Readability
How well the full book reads. A 5 is tight and gripping; a 2 is heavy going.
Staying power
How well it holds up today. A 5 is as relevant now as the day it came out.
The overall rating starts from the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half thimble. Then we give a straight verdict: A thimble is enough when the summary gives you most of the value, or Read the whole book when the depth, stories or method repay the time. When we say read the book, we link to where you can buy it.
Independent
Our summaries are independent commentary. They are not affiliated with, authorised or endorsed by any author or publisher, and we use book titles and author names only to identify the books we write about.
